Phil Collins career
Collins began his career as a musician in 1970 while serving as the drummer for the band Genesis, which had previously put out two albums. He supported Peter Gabriel’s lead vocals while he was a member of Genesis. On two tracks, though—”For Absent Friends” from 1971’s “Nursery Cryme” album and “More Fool Me” from 1973’s “Selling England by the Pound”—he did got the chance to sing lead.
Collins took over as the group’s vocalist after Peter Gabriel quit. He performed on many Genesis albums, including “A Trick of the Tail” (1976), “…And Then There Were Three…” (1978), “Duke” (1980), “Abacab” (1981), “Genesis” (1983), “Invisible Touch” (1986), and “We Can’t Dance,” sounding “more like Gabriel than Gabriel did” (1991).
Collins quit Genesis in March 1996 to concentrate on his solo work. He had been releasing his own solo work concurrently with his work with Genesis while he was still a band member. “Face Value” (1981), “Hello, I must Be Going!” (1982), “No Jacket Required” (1985), “…But Seriously” (1989), and “Both Sides” are among these solo albums (1993).
One of the best-selling albums ever is Phil’s 1985 release “No Jacket Required,” which has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
He started the Phil Collins Big Band after leaving the group, playing drums in it. They went on tour, playing jazzy tunes, covers of Genesis songs, and Collin’s original music.
His sixth solo studio album, “Dance into the Light,” was made available in October 1996. It received mixed reviews and performed less commercially than any of his prior solo albums, despite peaking at No. 4 in the UK and No. 23 on the US charts.
Disney hired Collins to pen and sing the songs for “Tarzan,” an upcoming animated picture (1999). The results, which featured Collins singing his songs in dubbed versions of the movie and soundtrack in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish, were well-received.
The song “You’ll Be in My Heart” in particular spent 19 weeks at the top of the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, which was a record-breaking amount of time for a single song.
Collins also won the Academy Award and Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song in 2000 for “You’ll Be in My Heart.”
Collins released “Testify,” the album with the worse reviews at the time of its release, in 2002. (it has since been surpassed). He went back to Disney in 2003 to contribute to the score of their animated picture “Brother Bear” (2003). Collins was a composer and songwriter in addition to singing many songs on the soundtrack, including “Look Through My Eyes”. In 2010, he issued his eighth solo album, “Going Back.”
