The Green Bay Packers are expected to take a backseat in the NFC North division after they traded Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets in the off-season. Now, the Packers’ former first-round draft pick Jordan Love will be replacing Rodgers as the starting QB. Love and the Packers aren’t expected to have immediate success. In fact, some people, including the CBS analyst Adam Schein, believe the Packers are going to have a disastrous season under the 24-year-old QB.
“Everyone looks great during preseason practices except for, apparently, Jordan Love, who by his own admission has struggled. This is a flat-out debacle. It’s also predictable because Jordan Love can’t play football. Simple as that,” said Schein on Friday.
Adam Schein also questioned the young signal-caller’s leadership ability and cited some heated incidents from the training camp to support his argument. “You have Rasul Douglas. He’s talking all sorts of smack to Aaron Jones. Saying ‘You guys bleeping stink’. Jones is livid and then acknowledges the offense is terrible. Defensive players are calling out the offense. Jordan Love can’t do a damn thing. This is going to be a predictable disaster with Jordan Love in Green Bay,” said Schein.
Schein might’ve gone a little overboard on his hate for Jordan Love. Anyhow, the Packers aren’t even expected to make it to the playoffs in their first year of the Love era. They are in a tough NFC North division and it would be a massive success for them even if they just made it to the postseason as a wildcard team.
Big year ahead for Jordan Love and the Packers post-Aaron Rodgers era
The Packers aren’t under immense pressure to win anything immediately. But their 1st year under Jordan Love would set the tone for their new era post-Aaron Rodgers’ exit from Green Bay.
With Rodgers, this Packers roster would be competing for the Super Bowl, but they decided to rebuild the team under their young franchise QB Love. The young QB is expected to win a reasonable number of games and show some leadership qualities in the 2023 season.
Instead of the 5th year option, the Packers signed Love to a one-year extension that will keep him with the team through the 2024 season. So basically, the Packers are giving Love two years to prove that he has the potential to lead an NFL franchise. If things went south, they would be on the market for a franchise QB in the 2025 off-season.
